BYD Seal Excellence – is now available for test drives at JB CarConcept

Electric mid-size sedan with blade battery: The Chinese manufacturer is presenting its fifth all-electric vehicle on the European market with the BYD Seal. Drawing on a relatively large amount of experience from the domestic market in China, BYD has launched an attractive mid-size sedan. It not only excels with its sporty performance and modern design - BYD calls it “Ocean Aesthetics” - but also derives its energy from a so-called blade battery. Its cells are made of lithium iron phosphate and are deemed to be more sustainable as they can be produced without the use of cobalt. It is integrated into the supporting structure of the Seal thanks to cell-to-body technology meaning that it contributes to the generous amount of space. This, together with its dimensions, allows the BYD Seal to compete with top dogs such as the Model 3 from Tesla or the Polestar 2.

Wheelbase 2.90 m – plenty of space and Dynaudio Premium Sound

The Seal Excellence offers its occupants plenty of space in the front and rear for a normal family sedan. This is helped by not only the wheelbase of 2.90 m but also a clever layout. The question of whether the relatively narrow loading hatch to the trunk and the volume of just over 400 liters will also be deemed sufficient will certainly be an interesting one during tests and comparison drives. There's no shortage of comfort features: the Seal handles very quietly, is not sprung too stiffly and has a central 15.6” multimedia screen capable of being rotated horizontally and vertically. This is complemented by the high-performance interior sound system from the renowned manufacturer Dynaudio. The instruments are not sufficiently anti-glare for our taste, however. We also found the controls – operated via touchscreen and separate switches - a little gimmicky and overly complicated in places.
