Now ready for you at JB CarConcept: the electric Vinfast VF 8 from Vietnam
In 2017, the car manufacturer Vinfast was founded in Vietnam, initially presenting sedans that resemble some BMW models. Except that they are trimmed to suit Asian tastes. The Vietnamese start-up is building up its position on the European market with its own development, the Vinfast VF 8. The all-electric SUV only became available in Germany in mid-2024. And it will have to face a well-positioned competition: the range in this market segment extends from VW with the ID.4 and ID.5 to BMW's iX2, the Audi Q4, the Skoda Enyaq, the Chinese BYD Tang, the Toyota bZ4X and, of course, the Model Y from Tesla.
Quality and value through renowned partners such as Pininfarina, ZF and Google
As a newcomer to the global automotive market, Vinfast did not rely solely on its own expertise and capital. When it came to design, the company sought cooperation with the renowned design specialist Pininfarina. The result is a pleasing body “with striking, flowing lines”. It is intended to stand for sportiness and aerodynamics.
For electronics and assistance systems, support was secured from ZF on Lake Constance. The infotainment of the crossover from Vietnam with a 15.6” touchscreen is based on Google's Android Auto. It responds quickly to commands and is supplemented by classic buttons.
Data on the Vinfast VF 8 (Plus version):
- Length: 4.75 m, width: 1.93 m, height 1.67 m
- All-wheel drive with 2 electric motors
- Maximum power 300 kW / 408 hp with 620 Nm torque
- Battery capacity: 87.7 kWh (net)
- Consumption according to WLTP: 21.9 kWh / 100 km
- Range (according to WLTP) up to 457 km
Complete equipment and 10-year warranty
Vinfast equips its VF 8 with everything that some of the established vehicles on the market have to be ordered additionally: striking lighting design around the V logo at the front and rear, extensive airbag equipment, head-up display, panoramic roof, over-the-air updates, mobile service and its own charging card, to name just a few examples.
But a new manufacturer automatically leads to very fundamental questions: What impression of space and what practicality does the e-car from Vietnam offer? What features does the chassis have to offer? What about comfort, maneuverability and safety? How is the market reacting to the price model with a low entry price and battery rental?
