While Toyota's alternative drive concepts have so far primarily involved vehicles with hybrid drive systems, the world's largest automobile manufacturer is now taking an open-minded approach to technology. Alongside its Mirai fuel cell car (available from us), "bZ" is to become a sub-brand of its own for vehicles with no local emissions.

Barely on the market, the new ID.BUZZ is already affectionately referred to as the "Electric Bulli" - in reference to the legendary T1 from the VW Group. VW promises a "new level of spaciousness".

We were most struck by the appealing design: simple box shape, with large windows and eye-catching visual accent thanks to the 2-colour paintwork. The impression continues on the inside: design and functionality familiar from the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 are skillfully combined with the exterior color.

The new ARIYA from Nissan aims to be an expression of a new vision behind Nissan - indeed, a further development of its brother, the Leaf. It comes with some interesting design solutions to achieve this: a single horizontal line instead of blurred contours, narrow LED front headlights, coupé-style roof line sloping down to the rear with equal antennas in the shape of conventional fish fins, a spacious, lounge-like interior.

Following on from the compact ID.3 and the SUV ID.4, the ID.5 is the third purely electrically powered vehicle from VW. Even though it shares the same technical foundation with the ID.4, the ID.5 comes across as distinctly sportier than its SUV brother with its accentuated athletic design. Its utility value hardly suffers as a result. The storage capacity of 549 to 1,561 liters differs only slightly from the ID.4 (543 to 1,575 liters). The same applies to the payload: 532 kg for the ID.5 versus 540 kg for the ID.4 with the same engine.

Let's take a quick look behind the scenes: After hearing that the new ET7 electric sedan from Nio was about to enter production, we put a lot of effort into bringing the car to Europe for your tests, comparison drives and events. Numerous variants and the new ecosystem for loading and service management are strong arguments for the new Ford E-Transit. It is entering the market slightly later than its competitors – but it shines with its particular diversity. Body variants as chassis/pickup truck, double and single cab, three wheel bases, three roof heights result in much more than 20 variants. Meaning that the Ford E-Transit is suited optimally for the manifold requirements of potential customers.

Renault Mégane E-Tech – Renault is sending the Mégane E-Tech Electric against the ID.3 into the race as the successor to its successful Zoe and Twingo Electric vehicles.

What attracted our attention? The comparatively low chassis height of the Mégane E-Tech. With its approximately 1.50 m, it undercuts most of its rivals by 10 to 15 cm. In addition to its relatively low weight of less than 1,700 kg. And its drive layout acting directly on the front axle - in this respect the e-technology does not differ from its combustion engine siblings, Renault Zoe, Opel Corsa-E, Peugeot e-208 or Mazda MX-30 – however from many other vehicles of the competitors.

Some speak of the "real E-Class". Mercedes talks about "sensual clarity", "incomparable modernity" and "elegant one-bow design" at the presentation of its second electric saloon after the EQS. But what distinguishes the EQE 350+ on a daily basis?
